Research and policy development focusing on enabling public participation and debate over the development of adequate standards, policies and practices for governments and other institutions concerning the extractive industries and generally in the operation of global trade and finance.

Independently monitor, evaluate and critique the environmental and social impacts of particular projects and independently research issues associated with mining company practices, policy reform and the standards necessary to avoid negative impacts and uphold the public interest.

Campaigning and advocacy to prevent destructive practices and projects, and to improve environmental and social standards and practices of the extractive industries and energy sector.

Grassroots solidarity, capacity building and support for communities and NGO's in host countries of extractive industry projects, ensuring the voices of directly affected communities reach both private and public decision makers.

Network building and resourcing of regional and international networks to work effectively on protecting and enhancing the environmental and social outcomes of the extractive sectors and international trade and finance generally.

Public education/outreach ensuring that the public has access to information to enable effective democracy, and that issues of global concern such as climate change and the impacts of corporate globalisation are engaged with by the Australian public.

Support for civil society in Australia and the Asia Pacific: resourcing, education and research for local communities and their support organisations to fully participate in decisions that impact their natural environments and cultural values.
