The issue of the effects of mining development on indigenous people has arisen in many areas around the world in many different contexts.  Aboriginal people in Australia face the encroachment of mining development around the country.  The Mineral Policy Institute cites the Yakabindie/Jones Creek proposed mine, the Windarling Mine, the Ranger Urranium Mine as some of the major sites in Australia where indigenous people's rights are compromised for the sake of mining development, the protection of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage is also highlighted in Australia by the 'Narooma' case.  Internationally, the El Cerrejon Mine in Columbia and the Yanacocha Mine in Peru have also become part of the campaign focus of the Mineral Policy Institute.
