Militarism and Mining
MPI is opposed to the practice of mining company’s payments to armed forces
to act as security at mine sites. This practice is especially dangerous
where local communities are in conflict with the company, and is frequently
associated with grave human rights violations including cruel and inhuman
treatment, arbitrary detention and killings, and the suppression of civil
and political freedoms.
