BHP Billiton's self interested exit from the Ok Tedi mine has started to unravel as a number of clans who refused to sign the agreements that facilitated their exit have come forward seeking compensation for the extensive and devestating impacts of the mining operation that continues to dump tens of thousands of tonnes of mine waste into the Ok Tedi and Fly River each day.

Locals say no to BHP Billiton's Pujada Bay nickel mining activities
Local communitites at Pujada Bay in the Philippines urge BHP Billiton to respect their wishes and have indicated their opposition mining in their area. A petition of over 800 people opposing the project is further suppported by resolutions of two out of the three local level government units which have oppposed any mining in the sensitive region that includes protected terrestrial and marine areas.
