A massive cyanide spill has occurred at an Australian-owned gold operation in Romania, killing fish and rendering water undrinkable. The initial cyanide concentration was reported to be between 325 and 700 times the legal limit. The cyanide is being diluted as it moves down the river, but ongoing fish deaths are reported as the spill flows into Serbia.
