Ramu Nickel Mine: Ocean dumping mine source of controversy
The controversial Ramu Nickel mine is set to be funded by a Chinese government owned steel company keen to secure resources to fuel steel production back in China. But the negative impacts and costs of the mine to economic, environmental and social values in PNG has sparked controversy and concern from diverse groups including the PNG National Fisheries Authority.

MPI URGENT APPEAL: Human Rights Defender Attacked
The Mineral Policy Institute assisted the evacuation of Mr. Jethro Tulin an native Engan, and human rights defender from Enga Province, Papua New Guinea after he was attacked on August 4th by three men wielding machetes. He had just returned from presenting complaints about the Porgera Gold Mine’s environmental and human rights abuses at the Barrick Gold AGM and at the United Nations.
